The Committee members observed the works on the facilities on phasing out power-generating unit of Chornobyl NPP and transforming of the object "Ukryttia" into the ecologically safe system, operations with the radioactive waste and burnt nuclear fuel, the state of implementation of the international technical assistance projects to construct new safety premises.
The People´s Deputies also met the Minister on Emergency Situations, employees of Chornobyl NPP, Groups of International Project Management and contract holders to discuss the state of the implementation of the National program on out power-generating unit of Chornobyl APP and transforming of the object "Ukryttia" into the ecologically safe system, previous decisions of the Committee on the situation in the alienation zone, situation at Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant and in Slavutych town; actions for implementation of the basic project of the international technical assistance.
According to the Chornobyl NPP Board, 377 systems and 750 units of special equipment and elements were stopped, which comprises nearly 62% of all the operating systems and elements, or 98% of the number of systems and elements that could have been stopped before the entire elimination of fuel. During the meeting, it was emphasised that the operating period of systems and elements of blocs No. No. 1 and 2 was prolonged for 10 years (bloc No1 till 2017, bloc No2 till 2018)."
The works regarding the projects of the international technical assistance were boosted, namely, the works on the intermediate depository for burnt nuclear fuel, recycling plant of liquid radioactive waste, industrial complex on the treatment of the solid radioactive waste and new safety facilities.
In the result of the working visit, the Committee passed several resolutions. A. Semynoha, Chairman of the Committee, emphasised that state of financing the works (60% of an annual need) and prolongation of the implementation of the international technical assistance projects (delay makes up 6-10 years) give rise to concern.
